Christmas Number 1 in 1986

If you grew up in the 80s you probably remember this song for the video too!

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeet Petit! rang out in many a household in 1986, it’s no wonder it was the Christmas number one!

Like most Christmas number ones, it remained top of the charts for 4 weeks and sold over 700,000 copies.

Originally recorded in 1957, and sung by Jackie Wilson.  the song was written by Berry Gordy, Gwen Gordy Fuqua and Wilson’s cousin, Roquel Davis.

It was released after a clay animation video was shown on BBC TWO, for company Giblets, who produced it as a showreel.

Jackie Wilson was an iconic singer of his time, and influenced Elvis Presley, James Brown and Michael Jackson. He reached number one 3 years after his death.
