Putting up Your Decorations Early Makes you Happier

If the proof is really in the pudding – it’s time to put up your tree!

I’m not sure about you, but my Instagram feed went crazy with people putting up their trees yesterday. It gave me serious tree envy and there’s a scientific reason for it!

According to Psychoanalyst Steve McKeown, in The Mirror, putting your decorations up earlier makes you happier. Whether it’s an excuse to indulge in nostalgia, or wrap yourself up in the magic, it’s a positive thing.

The Scientific Bit!

Steve says;

“Although there could be a number of symptomatic reasons why someone would want to obsessively put up decorations early, most commonly for nostalgic reasons either to relive the magic or to compensate for past neglect.”

“Perhaps the holidays serve as a reminder of when a loved one was still alive. Or maybe looking at a Christmas tree reminds someone of what life was like when they still believed in Santa.”

Christmas definitely has that air of magic around it, so re-creating that at home, gives a hygge feel. Christmas can immediately transport you into a good mood.
