Eco Foliage Candle Holders

Candles in window

Make your home look extra special for the festive season with this lovely eco craft project idea from Dobbies. Reuse, recycle and recreate for an environmentally-friendly and stylish addition to your Christmas decorating that will give your home a cosy glow.

Stylist at Dobbies Garden Centres, Rebecca Stanton, said,

“A stylish update to add to windowsills, side tables or as a dining table centrepiece, bring a
touch of the outdoors in using seasonal foliage foraged from autumn walks for these fussfree
homemade candle holders. Simple yet stunning, they are a nice one to sit and make for
a moment of calm over a cuppa or spiced mulled wine.

“Opt for taper candles which are long and slim, as these will add height and interest. We
used white candles for a sleek clean look, but you could choose a colour to tie in with your
overall decorating theme. What I love most about them is how easy it is to change the look
by choosing different foliage, plus they only take minutes to make, so are truly an express
style update!”

You will need:

  • Selection of foliage
  • Secateurs
  • Empty, clear glass bottles
  • Candles

To make:

1.Collect foliage from your garden, or forage from a walk with family or buy from a local florist or garden centre. You could use Fern, Eucalyptus, Holly or Bay tree sprigs to name a few. Use secateurs to shape as desired.

2. Add foliage to the clear glass bottles. Fill the water up to about the neck of the bottle.

3. Add candles, we have chosen white but perhaps you would like to use a coloured candle. Place your bottle on your mantel or table then safely light and enjoy! Never leave candles unattended.
